“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-5. I have been reading over this section and the big thing that sticks out is “it is not self seeking”. It hit me hard in the fact of when someone is mean to me or doesn’t want me or like me, how do I act? Do I become mean, or disrespectful? Do I stop being kind to that person? If I do these things that means it wasn’t love, because I would be loving with expectation of being loved back and that’s self seeking. Jesus says to live our enemies, it’s easy to be kind to those who love you but to be kind to those who hurt you is genuine love. Jesus died on the cross for everyone but he also knew not everyone would choose him, some would deny him and even hate him but he still went for all. That’s not self seeking, on the cross he said “Forgive them Father they know not what they do”(Luke 23:34). I want to love like Jesus.
